There was once a guy who suffered from cancer, a cancer that can?'t be cured. He was 18 years old and he could die anytime. All his life, he was stuck in his house being taken cared by his mother. He never went outside but he was sick of staying home and wanted to go out for once. So he asked his mother and she gave him permission.
He walked down his block and found a lot of stores. He passed a CD store and looked through the front door for a second as he walked. He stopped and went back to look into the store. He saw a beautiful girl about his age and he knew it was love at first sight. He opened the door and walked in, not looking at anything else but her. He walked closer and closer until he was finally at the front desk where she sat.
She looked up and asked, “Can I help you?”
She smiled and he thought it was the most beautiful smile he has ever seen before and wanted to kiss her right there.
He said, “Uh… Yeah… Umm… I would like to buy a CD.”
He picked one out and gave her money for it.
"Would you like me to wrap it for you?” she asked, smiling her cute smile again.
He nodded and she went to the back. She came back with the wrapped CD and gave it to him. He took it and walked out of the store.
He went home and from then on, he went to that store every day and bought a CD, and she wrapped it for him. He took the CD home and put it in his closet. He was still too shy to ask her out and he really wanted to but he couldn't. His mother found out about this and told him to just ask her. So the next day, he took all his courage and went to the store as usual. He bought a CD like he did every day and once again she went to the back of the store and came back with it wrapped. He took it and when she wasn't looking, he left his phone number on the desk and ran out…
One day the phone rang, and the mother picked it up and said, “Hello?”
It was the girl! The mother started to cry and said, “You don?'t know? He passed away yesterday…”
The line was quiet except for the cries of the boy's mother. Later in the day, the mother went into the boy?'s room because she wanted to remember him. She thought she would start by looking at his clothes. So she opened the closet.
She was face to face with piles and piles and piles of unopened CDs. She was surprised to find all these CDs and she picked one up and sat down on the bed and she started to open one. It is highly philosophical and symbolic. By implication，we see a 4—step definition of success：1）a goal to be set. as represented by the beautiful princess；2）challenges to be met，as represented by the three tasks；3）the process of surmounting difficulties，as represented by the ordeals the youth goes through；and 4）the reward of success，as represented by the happy marriage.
The story not only caters to everyone’s inward yearning for success，but also emphasizes the inseparability of the process and the result. The reward of success will be much amplified if the path leading towards it is treacherous，and vice versa. If a person inherits his father’s millions and leads an easy life，he is not a successful person even in material terms，because there are no difficulties involved in his achieving affluence. The term "success"，to be sure. will not sit still for easy definition. But as I understand it，the true meaning of success entails a combination of both the process and the satisfactory result of an endeavor. To clarify my view，let me give another analogy.
If we changed the rules of football，greatly enlarged the goal and sent away David Seaman or any other goal keeper，so that another David，namely David Beckham，could score easily，then scoring would not give him the thrill of accomplishment and the joy that it brings. If we further changed the rules by not allowing Arsenal’s defenders to defend，so that Beckham needed only to lift a finger，actually a toe，to score，then there would be no game at all，because the meaning of winning would have disappeared. In accepting the challenge，in surmounting the difficulties and in enduring the hardship，success acquires its value. I could still remember very clearly that one afternoon when we fin-ished our class, we went to some other classes to sing songs for them, just like what people do in the states on Christmas Eve. After the arduous military training, I get absolutely absorbed in my studies. The classes given by the teachers are excellent. They provide us with information not only from our textbooks but from many other sources as well. They easily arouse my insatiable desire to take in as much as I can.
Frankly speaking, at first I had some difficulty following the teachers. However, through my own efforts and thanks to my teachers' guidance, I made remarkable progress. Now I've benefited a lot from lectures and many other academic reports.
Learning is a long process; I'll keep exploring in the treasure house of knowledge to enrich myself. This summer I got out of the ivory tower and entered the real world. A publishing house offered me a part'time job in compilation and revision.

This disconnect is a problem that I'm trying to help solve.

I met Tracy in June of 20xx, when the Today Show asked me if I could work with her to see if I could help her turn things around. The first thing I told Tracy was she had to get out of the house. I'll tell you what happened with Tracy in a little bit, but I want to share with you a discovery that I made when I was returning to work after my own career break of 11 years out of the full-time workforce. There's one more thing I remember vividly from my own career break. And that was that I hardly kept up with the business news. My background is in finance, and I hardly kept up with any news when I was home caring for my four young children. So I was afraid I'd go into an interview and start talking about a company that didn't exist anymore. So I had to resubscribe to the Wall Street Journal and read it for a good six months cover to cover before I felt like I had a handle on what was going on in the business world again.

We did that already. We have fewer spousal or partner job relocations. We're in a more settled time of life. We have great work experience. We have a more mature perspective. We're not trying to find ourselves at an employer's expense. Plus we have an energy, an enthusiasm about returning to work precisely because we've been away from it for a while.

The first one is, employers are worried that relaunchers are technologically obsolete. Now, I can tell you, having been technologically obsolete myself at one point, that it's a temporary condition. A lot of the commands are the same. I found PowerPoint much more challenging, but now I use PowerPoint all the time. The second area of concern that employers have about relaunchers is they're worried that relaunchers don't know what they want to do. I tell relaunchers that they need to do the hard work to figure out whether their interests and skills have changed or have not changed while they have been on career break. That's not the employer's job. It's the relauncher's responsibility to demonstrate to the employer where they can add the most value.

I had been tracking return to work programs since 20xx, and in 20xx, I started noticing the use of a short-term paid work opportunity, whether it was called an internship or not, but an internship-like experience, as a way for professionals to return to work. I saw Goldman Sachs and Sara Lee start corporate reentry internship programs. I saw a returning engineer, a nontraditional reentry candidate, apply for an entry-level internship program in the military, and then get a permanent job afterward. So I wrote a report about what I was seeing, and it became this article for Harvard Business Review called "The 40-Year-Old Intern." And then, courtesy of Fox Business News, they called the concept "The 50-Year-Old Intern."

So five of the biggest financial services companies have reentry internship programs for returning finance professionals. And at this point, hundreds of people have participated. And now, seven of the biggest engineering companies are piloting reentry internship programs for returning engineers as part of an initiative with the Society of Women Engineers. Now, why are companies embracing the reentry internship? Because the internship allows the employer to base their hiring decision on an actual work sample instead of a series of interviews, and the employer does not have to make that permanent hiring decision until the internship period is over. This testing out period removes the perceived risk that some managers attach to hiring relaunchers, and they are attracting excellent candidates who are turning into great hires.

So even though she had a second job offer at another company for a permanent full-time role, she decided to take her chances with this internship and hope for the best. Well, she ended up blowing away all of their expectations, and the company not only made her a permanent offer at the beginning of 20xx, but they made it even more interesting and challenging, because they knew what Tracy could handle.

We imagine ourselves more different from the animals than we are. Animals live on impulse, and are happy as long as external conditions are favorable. If you have a cat it will enjoy life if it has food and warmth and opportunities for an occasional night on the tiles. Your needs are more complex than those of your cat, but they still have their basis in instinct. In civilized societies, especially in English-speaking societies, this is too apt to be forgotten. People propose to themselves some one paramount objective, and restrain all impulses that do not minister to it. A businessman may be so anxious to grow rich that to this end he sacrifices health and private affections. When at last he has become rich, no pleasure remains to him except harrying other people by exhortations to imitate his noble example. Many rich ladies, although nature has not endowed them with any spontaneous pleasure in literature or art, decide to be thought cultured, and spend boring hours learning the right thing to say about fashionable new books that are written to give delight, not to afford opportunities for dusty snobbism.
If you look around at the men and women whom you can call happy, you will see that they all have certain things in common. The most important of these things is an activity which at most gradually builds up something that you are glad to see coming into existence. Women who take an instinctive pleasure in their children can get this kind of satisfaction out of bringing up a family. Artists and authors and men of science get happiness in this way if their own work seems good to them. But there are many humbler forms of the same kind of pleasure. Many men who spend their working life in the city devote their weekends to voluntary and unremunerated toil in their gardens, and when the spring comes, they experience all the joys of having created beauty.
The whole subject of happiness has, in my opinion, been treated too solemnly. It had been thought that man cannot be happy without a theory of life or a religion. Perhaps those who have been rendered unhappy by a bad theory may need a better theory to help them to recovery, just as you may need a tonic when you have been ill. But when things are normal a man should be healthy without a tonic and happy without a theory. It is the simple things that really matter. If a man delights in his wife and children, has success in work, and finds pleasure in the alternation of day and night, spring and autumn, he will be happy whatever his philosophy may be. If, on the other hand, he finds his wife fateful, his childrens noise unendurable, and the office a nightmare; if in the daytime he longs for night, and at night sighs for the light of day, then what he needs is not a new philosophy but a new regimen----a different diet, or more exercise, or what not.
Man is an animal, and his happiness depends on his physiology more than he likes to think. This is a humble conclusion, but I cannot make myself disbelieve it. Unhappy businessmen, I am convinced, would increase their happiness more by walking six miles every day than by any conceivable change of philosophy.

第三步，自信：

With high-technology, people hunt and kill cetaceans in extremely high efficiency for extra food. Developed countries build polluting factories in Third World countries and earn the profits thousand miles away. They invade small countries for hypocritical reasons just to exploit its natural resources. Science and technology have turned this world into a dog-eat-dog wild jungle. What's worse, we barely feel guilty about the conducted evils because what we have to do is to push buttons and machines are our accomplices.
However, it is humanism that stops us from becoming complete animals. Humanism made us realize the significance of living in a harmonious world and turn our spotlight on building eco-friendly industry. In the past years, we stopped killing animals for nutrition we don't need. We passed laws and regulations to protect the least-advantaged people. Because of humanism, we started to consider human beings and nature as a whole and care more than just ourselves. We filled ourselves with reason, love and compassion. Humanism keeps reminding us the consequence of abusing the immense power of technology and the great responsibility we undertake.

Silent Spring, a very famous book written by Rachel Carson, revealed the fact that DDT and such chemical products could be very lethal to creatures like birds, and therefore they caused irreversible damage to our eco-system. The manufacturers knew exactly about the side effects but they chose to conceal the fact for their own interests. Without the humanists like Rachel Carson, we will remain ignorant and eventualy face our own doom desperately.
The role of humanism is absolutely indispensable. It gives us a unique opportunity to be wise and act in ways that elevate us above the animal kingdom. It retains our humanness. unfortunately, due to the limitations of the feudal society ,nobody played cuju any longer in qing dynasty. and now, cuju is protected as a kind of culture heritage in china .
in the 17th century, cuju was spread to europe and developed into the sport called modern football. in the 18th century, some british soldiers and poor workers began to play a kind of sport by kicking a ball filled of leather , soon, this sport called football became famous all over the europe.
and now. football is one of the most popular sports in the world. there are more than 4 billion of football fans all over the world. people like football ,because it has magnificent skills、fast speed、wonderful goals、perfect teamwork and handsome football players. for example, beckham、kaka.
now, there are many famous football clubs likes real madrid，barcelona，manchester and so on. they have the greatest players and coaches in the world. for example, real madrid, it has one of the greatest players in the world—— c. ronaldo.he has strong muscles, superb skills, and fast speed. he has a yearly salary of more than 10 million euro which means that he is one of the most valuable football player in the world. in 20__, c.ronaldo won the uefa champions league and then he got the fifa world player of the year.
the world cup trophy , is made of pure gold. the bottom of trophy is made of two layers of malachite , which can be carved 17 champion countries. the fifa set a new rule that the new champion can’t have the trophy forever and it should be given back to the fifa. what’s more, every champion country just can keep it till next world cup while their name is carved on the trophy
